HSNA Volunteers Pack Hope with the Hawai‘i Food Bank

At the Hawai‘i School Nutrition Association, we believe our mission goes far beyond serving meals in our cafeterias. We are committed to caring for the whole child—and that means supporting students and families wherever there is a need.

Recently, we had the opportunity to put that mission into action by volunteering with the Hawai‘i Food Bank to pack food bags for school pantries. Together, our HSNA members worked side by side to prepare 6,000 food bags, filling 16 pallets with nutritious food that will soon reach students across the islands.

These bags will be distributed to more than 45 schools on O‘ahu and Kaua‘i, helping to stock campus pantries and provide extra support for families who need it most. For many keikis, these pantries are a vital resource—especially on weekends, evenings, and school breaks when regular school meals are not available.

We were reminded that even small actions can make a huge difference. Packing boxes, sorting items, and loading pallets may seem simple, but each step brought us closer to helping thousands of students have food on their tables. The energy in the room was filled with teamwork, laughter, and the true spirit of aloha.

Volunteering together also strengthened our HSNA ‘ohana. It gave us a chance to connect outside of our daily work and focus on the bigger picture of why we do what we do—to make sure no child in Hawai‘i goes hungry.

We want to extend a heartfelt mahalo to the Hawai‘i Food Bank for the important work they do every day and for allowing us to be part of this effort. And to all of our HSNA volunteers—thank you for giving your time, your energy, and your hearts to this meaningful cause.

This is what HSNA is all about: serving our community, supporting our schools, and caring for Hawai‘i’s keiki. We look forward to many more opportunities to volunteer and continue making a positive impact together.

Because when we work together, we don’t just pack food bags—we pack hope. ❤️
